Maseru, 15 February

ReNOKA’s operational plan was adopted in February 2022. It provides the first detailed guide to activities of government departments, civil society, the private sector, regional institutions and international partners to advance climate resilience and the restoration of land, water and livelihoods in Lesotho’s catchment areas.

The plan was developed through a series of 11 planning meetings across the country. Its action areas include catchment management, policy & governance, finance & investment, skills & knowledge, awareness & behaviour change, and data & monitoring.

It was adopted in a meeting of senior officials from the ministries responsible for water; forestry, range and soil conservation; agriculture; environment; and local government.

“For the first time, governmental and non-governmental institutions, regional and international partners agree on joint activities to protect Lesotho’s land, water resources,” said National Coordinator for Integrated Catchment Management Makomoreng Fanana.

He thanked stakeholders who contributed to the plan. “We worked together across institutional boundaries to ensure we use our resources effectively, reduce overlaps and redundancies, and make an impact for all Basotho and for the entire Orange-Senqu River Basin.”
